Bedlined My Rocker Panels (pic heavy)
Hey guys,
This weekend I decided to bed line my rocker panels and also do a quick and dirty repair on my wheel wells where rust was poking through. This isn't a DIY on how to fix your rust the proper way with cutting out the rust and welding in a new patch, I simply decided to slow it down with POR15. I expect this to last atleast a couple years but in no way is a permanent fix.
Before pics without doing anything:

I also picked up a set of fender flares and applied bed liner over those too.
To start, I pulled off my mud flaps and inner fenders and began grinding, wire wheeling, and sanding the rust away. Here's what I was dealing with:

Next I applied the POR15 and following the 3 step process using Marine Clean, Metal Ready and eventually the POR itself. I was actually surprised at how far the little 4 oz can that came with the starter kit got me.
Sorry forgot to snap a pic here with the POR15 on.
I applied 2 coats of POR15 and let it dry over night, the next morning I sanded the rocker panels down using 100 grit in order to get the bed liner to stick (then wiped with acetone to remove all dust/dubris/grease. I used Duplicolours Bed Armor Aerosol (with kevlar) and I found that it's an absolute PITA to spray but it does stick well to metal - not so much to plastic even with a plastic primer/adhesion primer.

Here are the after pics as well as a close up: I didn't get the best pics as it was raining this day and didn't wanna risk the truck getting wet while it was still curing, I'll post more later.

I'll get yall a side shot of it today (if I remember). Overall I'm happy with the results. I do have some runs on the driver side door which I'll eventually re-do.
Thanks for looking

I really like that look. I checked into getting mine sprayed with Line-X a while back and it was ridiculously expensive (like $600), so I decided not to. But now that I see yours, I may just do it myself. Did that stuff adhere pretty well to your paint?
Anthony,
I sprayed behind the wheel well lip, but not actually the whole inner fender. What you're seeing is the plastic inner fender piece... and thanks!!
Tom,
I'm pretty happy with the results. If you look at the pic where my truck is covered in flyers you'll see that old red jack in the bottom corner... I know you can't see it but before I painted my truck I wanted to test it out, so I sanded one side of that jack with 100 grit and wiped it off with a dry rag (no wax/grease remover or acetone) and only applied 1 coat. I waited a day and it was pretty damn tough. One coat withstood my finger nail only after a day.
I can tell you it adhered well to that jack and Ill let you know a little down the road just how well it holds up. It doesn't really have a good grip on the plastic fender flare though. I'm going to try to really dig into the flares when ever the get scratched up and apply another coat, cause I think its partially my fault prepping the flares.
Oh and Line-X is too expensive for rocker panels IMO... totally worth it for the bed but nothing else.
Here are those side shots I promised (the fender flares are filthy since I painted those almost a month ago).

Came up to here with liner inside the door seam:

Thanks for the reply. I would be doing it mostly for looks but if it could prevent chips from gravel getting kicked up, that's a bonus. If Line-X could take the place of rock sliders, it would be totally worth the price. But it can't, so it's way too expensive.
I too was going for the looks but also to repair the rock chips in the paint. I plan on going mudding in less than a month for a buddies birthday, we'll see how well it holds up then!
Looks good. My buddy used the roll on dupli color stuff and it came out good. The roll on has more of a texture then the stuff from the can. Also remember that line x and rhino liner have a lifetime warranty. I have rhino liner in my bed and its some really tough stuff. Well worth the 500.00

I would say shoot the flares in some flat black paint. The gray tone just stands out too much for me. I like it overall, have been wanting to do my rockers for looks (especially with the blacked out nose) in either plasti or roll-on, just can't justify it $$ wise yet. and I'm the darker blue, looks good on your light blue though.
How did you decide where to stop the stripe? I saw you chose the top of the ridge. I've always debated bottom/top/center.

If I were doing mine, I think I would cut it off in the middle. In the "valley", so to speak. Just a personal preference thing, though.
