Default Transmission Identification 46RE vs 48RE vs ?

Can someone help me identify my transmission?

2004 Dodge Dakota V6 3.7L 2WD Quad Cab w/ automatic transmission.

Owner's manual of course says nothing. The Parts Manual identifies a gearshift cable that fits either a 42RE or a 46RE 4-spd auto...

The Service Manual has options for 46RE, 48RE, and 45REF. And Wikipedia says 46RE (A518) on the Dakota til 2003, and 48RE (A618) on the Ram from 03-04. Here's that link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TorqueFlite. My 04 Dakota doesn't seem to fall into either of those buckets.

cheers

As best I know the 48RE is used with diesels

I doubt you have a 46RE, it would most likely be the 42RE. The 46RE was used on the 5.9. The 42RE was used on the 3.9 (so I assume the 3.7 too).
