Default 45rfe shifting problems

i have a 2001 dakota 4.7 4x4 with the 45rfe tranny im getting a p0733 code inncorrect 3 gear ratio, ive pulled the pan and fixed the broken plate on the accumulators, but still will only shift 1,2 and go to n and rev i used a snap on scaner to activate each solinoid and found that when i activate the underdrive solinoid it slams in and out of gear all other solinoids engauge and hold i am thinking that it is a bad solinoid in the valve block has any one else had this problem?

Never heard of anything like this myself but anything is possible.
Like you said sounds like a solenoid bad, but I not a transmission guy

Brother had a Ford Broncho that you had to let off the gas to get it to go into
drive. Had it rebuilt at the shop and did the same thing. Warrantied so the shop rebuilt it again. Same issue. Shop guy said it must be something cracked in the transmission housing or something so THEY got a transmission from the junk yard and rebuilt it. no more shift problem.

Could your problem be something not lining up correct causing the solenoid to pop back out?

Just a thought.

The transmission is such a complicated beast to me. Props to your smarts and your ability to find and fix the problem!
