Default An update

Checked my fuel pressure, it is fine. Replaced the cap & rotor because they haven't been replaced since I owned her, she started right up and ran great!!

So a few days later I decide to use her, started right up, got about halfway down the street, sputtered and died and wouldn't start, just like before. My neighbor and another guy actually helped me push it back home!!

Now I am totally frustrated. This has always been my go-to vehicle, I have never hesitated to jump in her, hook up the trailer and run out to St. Louis or Tennessee or wherever without thinking twice.

I have NO idea where to go from here, it sucks that I can't just eliminate anything obvious because of all the electronic BS involved these days! I can't afford to have it towed and have someone else fix it, anyone have a clue what direction I should take from here??? At least without pulling out my gun and putting her out of her misery? lol

Did you get any codes when it died? Try checking anyways.

It still could be a fuel problem. Put the fuel pressure gauge on it again. "Sputter" sounds more like a fuel issue than electrical.

If you can't start it now, check for spark. If it's good, try some starting fluid.

No codes at all. I took the pressure tester back, will have to borrow it again. Starting fluid down the throttle body??

Check for spark and yes, try starting fluid. Go back to the basics when it won't start.

Starting fluid didn't do a thing, looks like an electrical problem! Now what??

An update: Checked the coil, the ASD relay and related, everything pointed to the coil. Got a new one, started right up! Drove down the street, sputtered and died again!!

Started right up last night, let it idle in the driveway, after about 20 minutes she shut down. Now nothing again.

This is driving me crazy. I need this truck and as a last resort would take it somewhere, but I can't even keep it running long enough to do that! Any suggestions??

As stupid as it sounds, pull off your coil connector and squeeze the terminals closed slightly so it fits the pins on the coil tighter. I had the same problem as you. I thought the new coil fixed it, then it died again. I put the old one back on and it ran for a couple of days. I think just the act of changing it was helping the connection temporarily. Since I tightened the connector, it's been running for months without even a sputter. Give it a try. You have nothing to lose.
