Default 1998 Sport 4x4 steering box

Is there a way to maybe adjust some slack out of the recirculating ball type steering box on a 98 4x4. Truck seems to have a little too much free play, will "wander" over the road.

My 96 shop manual says it's possible, but needs to be done on a bench.

Sloppy steering could also be tie rod ends and/or ball joints that are worn out.

it could also be in the steering shaft at the universal. if that's the case rock auto has it in stock.
