Default Is everyone else's 5.2 such a dog?

My 99 Dakota has the 5.2 and a 5 speed tranny. I know that the 4.7 is a higher compression motor and will outperform the 5.2 in most situations. But my truck is slower to get to 25 or 30mph than most 4 cyl vehicles take to get to 60.

Is this typical or is something wrong?

About 6,000 miles ago I gave it new spark plugs and wires, a new air filter and changed all the fluid including engine oil transmission fluid, coolant and diffs.

Other than a new belt and another oil change since then that's about it.

i'd have to say something's definitely wrong... because i accidentally stripped out all the teeth that adjust the back of the seat (sit up or lean back) on my passenger side dropping the clutch to show my friend how much get up and go my 97 5.2 had, even with 200k miles haha... woops.

Throw a vacuum gauge on it. You might have a clogged cat.

I could hammer on my 5.2 at about a 20-30 mph roll and get my tires to break loose. It def wasnt slow

Considering that I have 35" tires and my truck is way heavier than stock, I'd say it's a rocket. Definitely NOT what I would call slow.

Same here with mine. I have an extra cab, 5speed, and 5.2L. 3.55 non lsd in the diffs and can rip tread even with my bad plenium. Id do as instrucked and throw a vac gauge on, pull your plugs out and check to see if any of them are covered.
Also, may sound stupid but you would be surprized, check your air in the tires. I low tire could cause drag!

Yeah, its a small truck with a V8, these things are quick for a 10-15 year old pickup truck. My 4.7 will blow the doors off my 2.5L Legacy GT all day. That thing is a dog.
