Default front axle questions

I am planning to replace my drivers side front axle. I havent taken it out yet but want to have all the parts needed when I do. I have been doing some research and making a shopping list.
I see half shaft, stub shaft, intermediate shaft but not sure which is which.
So, the stub shaft is the first part closest to the diff and rides on the axle bearing? Then the axle shaft goes from the stub shaft to the cv, then the cv goes to the half shaft and through the steering knuckle and wheel bearing? Is this right?
Sorry if these are dumb questions.
thanks in advance.
oh and its a 2003 qc slt 4.7.

The CV and the half shaft are generally considered to be part of a single assembly (often called a CV axle, CV shaft, or some variation of those).

Which part do you need to replace? By "axle", I'm assuming you mean the entire CV axle assembly? You don't need to open up the differential to do that. It's actually fairly simple.

I I was going to replace everything from the hub in.
I have a popping noise during a hard left turn. Not a click click click sound but an intermittent pop. Ball joints are all new.
the axle shaft seems to be frozen inside the cv joint and I have some play in the shaft that enters the diff. From what I can find this is an indication of worn axle bearing and possible worn splines?
