Default map sensor

Hi, I have am 03 dodge dakota I went to AutoZone, my check engine light is on. They told me it was the 02 sensor. I replaced those, then a mechanic said it was the spark plugs. I replaced those too. Well today I went to check the catalytic converter, n they told me is in great conditions. Well a friend of mine told me it could be the map sensor.
See the problems my truck has are:
It lacks on acceleratiion,
Wastes too much gas.
It wants to shut down on me while im on a light or stop sign, in order for me to be able to accelerate right I have to step on the accelerator before shifting to first...
I don't know if my friend is right, but all the symptoms that a bad map sensor should have, my truck has it.

Hi Elkrazy,

Welcome to the forum.

What engine/transmission do you have?

Did Autozone give you the code? Is the light still on? If it is, do the following:

Beginning with the key off, turn it to RUN (not start), OFF, RUN, OFF, and then leave it in RUN. You should have the codes display in the odometer window.

What brand O2 sensor did you use? You'll find on the forum that Dakota's do NOT like Bosch.

The shutting down while at stop lights, I woud suspect the Idle Air Control valve on the back of the throddle body. I had a 91 Pontiac Sunbird convertable (fun car) and also had to hold down the accelerator while at lights. Searched the web and found one cheap, replaced the unit and that corrected that problem. Have Autozone run another check of codes, if nothing shows in the OBD search, have them check the DATA codes, these are intermitten codes (stored) that do not set off the check engine light until enough are present. If their code reader has this feature.

I agree that it sounds like a burnt out map sensor. It's a cheap fix

You should have it scanned again and jot down the code and post it here or do research to confirm. I wouldn't just take their word for it...
