Default Air bag light & no cruise

1997 dodge dakota 4x4 auto
5.2 v8 w/ 135,000

My air bag light is on and I have no cruse. The cruse would work but I had to hold the button in and sometimes cycle it on and off for it to power up. Thinking that the cruse buttons were shot I change them and lost the cruse totally. Now it will not even turn on. So I delivered my truck to my mechanic and he changed the clock spring with a new one and left the buttons changed out. NOTHING, He said take it to the dealership. So any suggestions what the root cause is or could be.

I am pretty handy with mechanics but this one is over my head, HELP????

I am tired of the dinger always ringing at start up and I would like my cruse back...

Hi X,

Welcome to the forum!

Does your horn work? AIRBAG, cruise, and the horn all use different circuits in the clockspring. Were the switches you replaced for an '97? There are changes in later years.

If not installed properly, one turn of the wheel can destroy a clockspring.

Your dealer could scan both with their DRB. It'll test the AIRBAG system and also the action of the cruise control switches.

Horn works, No I don't believe the switches are from a 97 model year. The replacement switches had the same plug but the button texture when pushed are different.

I think they are the wrong ones.

ABS not sure, I don't ever recall the ABS operating when sliding on snow. Don't recall the normal clicking sound of the brakes like my passenger car does.

How do I check to see if ABS is operating at all. DEALER????

Ugghh, I mean airbags, not ABS. I'm sorry about the confusion!!! Been working nights and am a bit out of it in the morning. I fixed the other post.

The dealer can test the AIRBAGS and the cruise control with the DRB. It's easier than chasing parts. Heck, they can test your ABS if you want too.

Sorry about the earlier. Didn't mean to confuse things.
