Default No stock fog lights, want to install some

I have a 2002 Dakota with no fog lights. I would like to install fog lights but am assuming I will need a fog light assembly to mount onto the bumper. Does anyone have any ideas where I can start?

thanks

Well you need to have the right headlight switch assembly with the fog light push button on it, OR just independently wire up a switch (with a relay) as if you were installing an aftermarket set of lights. The lights with mounts themselves can be found on Amazon or eBay easily. If I'm not mistaken all trucks were wired for lights, some had them some didn't. Hope this helps. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

I installed a set of expensive Pilot fog lights that were made for a Dakota that did not have fog lights from the factory. They cost about $120.00 for the set and came with all the brackets to mount them behind the bumper. The brackets bolted to the frame rails and were a real pain to work with, I had to make additional brackets to get it to mount right. The lights worked great though and they looked just like OEM. Then I was hit in the front end back in 2010 and the fog lights were destroyed. My insurance would not replace them because they were not OEM. So I bought a cheap set of Baja lights at Advance and installed those. I used short pieces of a 2x4 that I bolted to the frame rail to mount the Baja's. They are still working fine, no water leaks or blown bulbs or any other problems.

If your truck has no OEM fog lights then the bumper does not have the mounting provisions on the back side. You will either need to replace the bumper cover or fab up your own mounting method. You need a 4" round light and you can cut out the holes with a 4" holesaw. I never saw any factory fog light wiring on my truck, but I did not look for it either. I ran my own wires to the lights, ran my own power and ground wires and wired in two relays and a toggle switch. I bought a real nice flush mount toggle at Advance, mounted it just below my headlight switch in the knee bolster panel. One relay is wired so the fog lights only have voltage when I turn on the parking lights. The toggle switch is wired in series with the parking light input to the relay, that is my on-off switch for my fog light circuit. I fused the circuit at 15 amps. The other relay breaks the power connection when I turn on the high beams so the fogs go out when I have the high beams on. It is illegal here to have brights and fogs on at the same time.

Installing fog lights is not hard but it did take the better part of a day to do the whole job. It was worth it though because around where I live it gets pretty dark and there are not many street lights.

My Dak didn't come with fog lights but have thought about installing them also.

I have the wiring under the truck and in the dash ready to go from the factory but no mounting hardware up front.

I suggest asking for some pictures of the mounting hardware needed from the forum.

Or maybe go to a junkyard and find a Dak with them and pull the hardware from it just be sure to get the same year

Don't forget the Dash switch unless it shows the fog on the switch now on your Dak
