I had what sounded like knocking very erratic from the front of the engine. Much research and painstaking troubleshooting led me to the timing chain tensioners. When it was apart, one tensioner was fully extended and the chain was stretched on my 4.7L. I understand it is a COMMON problem on Dodge V8s.
