I just finished replacing the lifters on the drivers side in my Dakota. It started to get dark so I figured I would finish up tomorrow.
I drove the truck home from work and 1 hour later I was removing the lifters. All but 1 of the 8 on the drivers side had 1/8 inch of play or more.
Can you remove the valve cover without having to move the AC compressor on the passenger side?
Thanks,
Dave

Apparently no one has removed a valve cover on a 4.7.
The answer is yes you have to get the ac compressor out of the way along with the ac accumulator and some other stuff.
I replaced all the lifters and while the engine does sound better the main noise I was going after is still there. I guess it is piston slap and not lifters. Oh well I'm just going to drive it til she blows
