Do our trucks have chip keys
If your key is gray then yes it has the oem immobilizer system and it will need a bypass module for the remote start. No interface is needed if you have a black key. Some Dakota's have the immobilizer and some do not.

Cool. I have a black key and you can pretty much tell that it's just a block of metal in there and no chip. Tried to tell him that but his computer just shows that it needs it. Mine is an SXT model so it doesn't have a lot of features, most places don't show an SXT model though so I've become used to mistakes.
Called my local dealer and gave them my VIN just to make sure. Mine doesn't have it and he said basically the same thing, Gray has it Black doesn't. He said it wasn't always like that so really depends on the year, but for the most part that is what you can go by.
A lot of hardware stores can make chip keys now, like Ace or something. No real reason to go to the dealer, unless you have nobody else around that can make them.

just so you all know the chip only activates the module by megnetic which caused the mod to use a set resistance. if you get a ohm meter and find the resistance you can by pass the whole thing by putting in a resister off a 12v feed anyway. or get a magnet and glue it to the bottom of the ingiton casing
