Default Reman Engine 4.7

Hey guys.
I have had some problems with some ticking noises in my 03 4.7 QC 4wd since I got it. It would tick at startup and go away after a few minutes. Then it started taking longer for the noise to go away.
Now it has developed into a knocking noise and it is getting worse. After a run on interstate or after moving for a while and coming up to a red light, stop sign..whatever..it really knocks loud at idle.
I have checked it with a stethoscope and it seems to be coming from the right side down at the head.
I replaced all the lifters just a month ago.
So after some research on reman engines I have found that prices range anywhere from 2000 to 3500.
Any tips on which remans are good and which to stay away from?
I plan on doing the install myself when the time comes.
Thanks

Rockauto offers both Marshall and Famous Brand long blocks.. perhaps start there and do a bit of research on them?

I just know that Rockauto is a great company to deal with and if these brands are good thats where I would go... unless you can find one locally.

If you are having a problem for the 4.7 i would recommend a 5.2/7/9 sway to be honest. The 4.7 in my eyes is the worse engine mopar made. Seen blown head gaskets, block failures, tons of lubrication failures due to clogged oil passages.

I know a bunch of 4.7's running with over 100k with no problems. 4.7 is prob almost as reliable as 5.2/5.9. All depends how well it was maintained. Our 04 grand cherokee has the 4.7 and its life hasnt been babied but it has been maintained.

To the op how many miles and did you try running synthetic oil? A reman is def better but now a days its so hard to find a quality one. If it were me Id find a used low mileage one and have a shop look it over.

120k on the engine. I got it with 104 k and have had it 2 years.Yep I have tried running a synthetic and slightly thicker oil but it is getting worse all the time. Now it knocks but only in gear at idle (auto). As soon as you touch the gas it quits and if you put it in Neutral or Park it stops knocking.
I think it may be a main bearing or rod bearing. It doesn't sound like a wrist pin to me..
I would pull it and just rebuild it except I just don't have the time to be without my truck.
Thanks

would a 5.9 be a direct swap or would it require a different computer and other things. I read something about tone rings(?) Being the reason it isn't a direct swap.

The only direct swap is another 4.7, with a 32 tooth tone ring.

The 5.9 would require a new PCM and wiring harness. You'll need a new transmission too. You have the 545RFE and the 5.9 uses the 46RE.

The tone ring "issue" relates to the 4.7 and the controller. If there are 3 connectors on the PCM (JTEC), it's a 16 tooth tone ring. Your 2003 should have 4 connectors on the PCM (NGC) which is for the 32 tooth tone ring.

the way I look at any OHV motor, it works like a finely tuned machine. Very finnicky, a ton of parts, and many points of failure. I don't think I'd want to touch one.

Id put it up on the rack and listen to it while underneath of it. Did you rule out the tranny?

To the Top what number of miles and did you attempt running manufactured oil? In the event that it were me Id discover an utilized low mileage one and have a shop look it over.
