The main difference that I know if is that on 2 wheel drive the leafs are under the axel, where the 4 wheel drive are over the axel

k. my next question is. would it be worth the extra work to make it work. i think it is a 9.25 (12 bolts on the cover plate). he only wants $150, and it would be a bump from 3.55 to 3.92. he also has a front 3.92 axle for 100.

It would probably tow great. To change the rear, you would need to replace the ring and pinion (and probably the bearings), but I think the differential carrier is the same. It's not really a do-it-yourself job unless you have experience and special tools. Around here, it costs anywhere from $200 to $400 per axle to have it done (labor only).

Just guessing at shipping, I would say about 50 bucks. It's really not that big or heavy.

Our crated transmissions are about $100 to UPS 2-day from Texas to Florida...

Are these for your '97?

I ask because you probably have a Dana front differential in there now, not the C205F that '00 and later use.

There were some pretty substantial changes in the front suspension between '99 and '00.
