Hitch receiver for 97 Dakota

Hitch receiver for 97 Dakota
So I've been doing a bit of hauling as of late, and I think that I need to get a hitch receiver for my pickup. Right now, the bumper slot that I have I am running into troubles with. I added a receiver for the trailer wiring where one of the lisence plate lights was. Well now the tounge of the trailer will rub on that receiver if I turn too sharp. So my next option is to fab up a hitch receiver to go on the frame. I was just wondering if anyone had done it or if I could get measurments off of someone's?
Thanks!

You might be able to find a receiver hitch at the boneyard that fits, no fabricating needed. It's only held on to the frame by 4 bolts.
www.car-part.com can help you find one.

Ebay is your friend. I've gotten several hitches on Ebay. Usually decent prices.
If the OP isn't planning on towing a lot of weight, one of those receiver hitches that bolts in to the bottom of the bumper (through the existing hitch ball holes) will be sufficient. Towing cap. is much less than 500 lb. total.
My Dak. is the first one that actually came with factory tow pack. Kinda nice to have it all there. Don't know what all it included--springs & such, but I like the 3.55 gearing, pretty well. I put the trailer light receptical through one of the license plate lights, too. Very clean looking and a lot better than the stupid little box the factory welded on to the crossbar of the receiver hitch.

If what you are towing has a lot of lights on it, you run the risk of burning up your light switch. There are kits available to solve this problem before it starts.
I'd take the truck to a reputable installer and have them take care of both the hitch and the wiring. If you fab up a hitch, you have some liability if a failure occurs.
Just my thoughts.

Yea I've called around to a couple junk yards here. Even called the dreaded place and what did they do? same thing they always do. "Well we cant go check we probably have 10 trucks like that". So im supposed to drive 60miles to see if you even have it? nope. Ive been looking around on craigslist and keeping in touch with the junk yards.
