Default Engine and Trans Swap

Would like to swap 4.7 engine, auto trans, and transfer case with non computer controlled 360 carburated, auto trans and transfer case in 2002 Quad Cab. Any ideals for trans and transfer case?

Hate to break the news, but you will have hell trying to do this. It's doable yes (You'll need a 727 transmission and either a NP203, 205, or I THINK 231 transfercase. I'm pretty sure one more of the 200's will fit but not positive which one. Your main issue will be that the PCM drives the dash as well as IS the ignition unit. Your second issue will be that the 727 is a mechanical speedometer and the 545 is all electronic. You'll have more codes than you will know what to do with. The ignition can be gotten around by using a mopar or MSD distributor with an MSD 6 box. The starter doesn't even go through the PCM I don't think, so it should spin over fine. You just won't have any telemetry on the dash.

I moved this thread into the regular forum.

The NV231 should fit the truck as it's almost identical to the NV233 that was offered in '02 with the 5.9. It's just the manual shift version. You might be able to find a 46RH transmission, basically hydraulic instead of electronic. I'm not sure of any external differences.

Like Magnet says, you'll need to do something else for the dash and the a/c if you want to keep it. The PCM runs everything - even the fuel gauge.

I have an idea but I don't know how well it would work.

The PCM there is for a 4.7 auto 4x4. If the OP found a PCM + harness for a 5.9 MT 2wd that would work with the 02 body harness, I think that resistors could be put in place of the fuel injectors (dummy load), an MSD tach adapter could be used to feed the crank position sensor input, use a factory mopar distributor for the cam sensor, water temp sensor can be re-used, same with oil pressure sender, speedometer should be brought in from the rear axle with an MT....is there anything I am missing? That should get rid of any codes other than maybe a misfire set, but that could be corrected by playing with the phase of the distributor rotor I think.

i found this EXTERNAL trans filter. i have one on my 01 dak. use high pressure hose, if you need it. i think most chrysler trans coolant tubing is 3/8 dia. double check the direction of the fluid flow.

after you clean the trans. add this to your*chrysler*trans. an external fluid filter
1. go to auto-zone. get 2210, its called a power steering filter, but it is for transs to. it is for 3/8 tubing. by (magna-fine) be sure to use high pressure hose. Reff:http://www.magnafilter.com

This would not really be a hard swap.
A 360/727/208 could fit easy enough.
You just have to be sure the transfer case drops on the proper side.
even that could be modified.

Or just use your 360.
Use the transmission of your choice with an Advance Adapters adapter if needed.
I like the 727, its tough and some strength modifications etc can really help. But O/D is sweet. So 904.
But you have numerous options.
More than we can tell you.
Use an Atlas t-case ordered specifically for you.

Guys, he's asking what he can use.
Not what will fix his dash and everything else.

NP205 ok.
NP203...your just being mean now.
NP205/NP203 mated would be cool. But all that cast iron. Wow.
NP208 is nice with the 2.61:1 Low range.

I was going to swap to a carbed 408 but decided to stick with computer controlled because I can't afford that much downtime. You would have to put in mechanical gauges, a new wiring harness. You would also have to figure out the lights and door locks since those ar controlled by the CTM.
