Default 97 Dakota no start, no spark 3.9L

Hi! I am working on my friends 97 Dakota 3.9L that has a no start, no spark. I've been all over the internet and checked voltage and grounds to coil, crank pos sensor, ASD relay. The PCM should send 5 volts to crank sensor, but this truck is sending 12.6V. Also the ASD (auto shut down) relay clicks like crazy with the key on. Should I condemn the PCM or is there any other thing I can check??

Have you checked for any codes?

If you have a digital trip/mileage you could try the key turn off/on sequence.

think you hold down the trip reset and turn key on and off 3 or 5 times within 5 seconds. release the trip reset and gauges should cycle then the codes should appear in the mileage readout. Been a while and can't remember if it just gives codes related to cluster codes or complete codes of computer.

You could try this AT YOUR OWN RISK. IF YOU TRY THIS CHECK FOR CORRECT PINOUT!!!!!!

Just keep at it you will get it. Remember there's nothing like a try and failure.

Like the woman said on the insurance commercial they can put anything on the internet that isn't true. and she's dating a french model.

That's my 2 PCM flags right there.

Yeah I thought so too.. Installed a new $160 PCM, and didn't fix it. I'm getting the exact same readings- 12.6 volts to the crank sensor and ASD relay clicks. Still no spark

I actually put a used engine in it. The old motor had 330k on it and finally threw a rod or something, but did still barely run. I found an engine from an '03 dakota and installed it in this '97. Only differences I could find were the injectors, coil, and cam sensors were different, so I swapped them out. Now I'm getting these crazy problems.

Did you use your crank sensor, or the one from the "new" engine?
