IMO, duals on a 4x4 should be angled out the back. Like this.

I wonder how many people clicked that link and thought/said to their self as if looking at a fine womans butt; "thats a nice rear end"

LOL.. (I admit i did)

Purchase a Performance system like TTI, etc and it will come with a X pipe or H pipe of some sort.
Yes, you can go "true dual" but why rob yourself of flow and performance?
We are running small blocks. A set of headers, 2 1/2" X pipe to the mufflers, 2 1/2" out is plenty.
Or headers and 3" Y to the muffler then dual 2 1/2" out.
Maybe that's not the right wording; how about this way.. with out loosing low end torque..

I suppose at the end of the day; I'm tired of tinkering and experimenting ... I'd like to get a little better response out of her to get her to kick up to themid range a little better (Best bet is the intake fix) most likely.. get a shroud built to get my e-fan back on as currently i removed it and put my clutch fan back on.. back last year being we had; had back to back droughts i did not like the idea of the truck sitting anywhere close to 210 mark in traffic.. and not being able to bring it down quick.. like the mach fan can sorta do.. i think with a proper shroud and not the plastic one for the clutch fan it can get some suction/vaccum affect and its efficiency go up.
that should free up a little parasitic drag when it would be normally engaged hogging HP

My concern is sure on a 5.0 Mustang or something I'd strip the factory manifolds off and put actual aftermarket headers on it and redo the exhaust compleatly.. but i worry that by making changes in either manner i will loose low end torque even if gaining in the upper RPM band.. thats not where my issue is..

Last time i checked 0-60 was 10 seconds gunning it.. but that's irrelevant. im not trying to race it.. once i get to upper RPM its not that bad*.. its getting it up and moving from the low end that is of question under normal driving conditions.

I guess my gripe is the way the operation of the truck; lack of power and the way the power train operates let say i turn a corner its either it feels like im driving a damn v6 with no power little engine it could to get up and moving again or i mash the peddal a little more and it goes all ***** out like a bat out of hell in passing gear...

I would vest in a programmer but that two is it really worth the 300 bucks dropping for minimal gains if any..

SO i suppose that's the point im looking at.. is there really anything i can do to help the truck work a little better and justify me keeping it.. with out dropping a ton of money for minimal gains..

Am i rattling on or making sense at all?

Your making sense.
Basically let it breathe. In and out would be best.
Stock systems are usually not very good. But too little back pressure can be very detrimental.

I think my truck runs well, check my sig. , it launches at stop lights. I probably will go with a single 3" y-pipe to rear in a year or two as my system is still good and sounds great. That being said a sct tune is my next upgrade performance wise.

My father says my truck has more than enough power and 'hauls ***' compared to most 1/2 tons he's driven..

I guess i expect too much form the truck ; thanks for the links and reference to the sig.. ill check it out..
