Default Horn Keeps Sounding

Well my horn works but here's the thing...it won't stop. I have a 2000 Dakota Sport V6. I don't know what's wrong with it...it works. I took the steering wheel apart but everything looks fine as far as wiring. I need to know if there is something I can replace i.e. Horn Contact etc. When I take apart the steering wheel there is a pad on the other side, maybe if I knew what that was called I could possibly replace that. Anybody with the same problem that their horn won't stop? What can I do- instead of taking out the fuse, and not using it at all.

Fuse works-horn works-button has to be jammed-horn continues to sound.

It happens when there is some water stuck in the horn piece, When does it happen ? and does the sound of the horn changes ? (slow to high) ?

Does it stop when you disconnect the horn button? There is a horn relay in the circuit that might have failed. It could be a clockspring problem too.

Is it beeping, or one contiuous tone? Also, do you have keyless entry? I'm wondering if it's in panic mode.

I don't have keyless entry. I have what looks like a mother board inside my steering wheel, could that be what's broken? I have an aftermarket horn that was rewired to function as if it were regular horn. I got upset one day and I punched the steering wheel and that's when this started happening.

You want to fix the problem or just keep horn from sounding?

If you want to fix you may need Ohm meter.
Horn circuit works from making the ground connection in the steering wheel.
ground wire from relay comes up into steering wheel
when you press on center of steering wheel the connection to ground is made
then the relay engages and sends power to horn.

so the horn wire in steering wheel is always making the connection in your case.
OR somewhere in the steering column the wire is making a connection to ground.

You just want to keep horn from sounding just remove horn relay.

Hope this helps.

Then you may need to visit a boneyard and swap out the innards.

Then you may need to visit a boneyard and swap out the innards, or the whole steering wheel, moving over your airbag.
