Default Transfer case selector switch

Just recently I am unable to put my truck in 4x4. I have a 04 dodge dakota with 4.7L engine.
I think its the selector switch that went bad but am unsure. sometimes if you wiggle the switch you can hear the motor trying to engage but it goes in 4x4 but wont stay.
Is there any fuse of anything I can disconnect so it will stay in 2wd? It constantly tries to switch in and out of 4x4. I ordered a switch off ebay and probably won't get it for a week or so. (hopefully that is it) But I do not want to damage things while driving if it tries to go into 4x4 and then constantly tries to switch to 2wd.

any help will be greatly appreciated thanks in advance.

There should be a fuse in the PDC under the hood. Not sure which for an '04 but in '01 it's fuse "A", labeled 4x4.

This fuse is for the selector motor. There are other fuses in the junction block but they only are for the indicator lights.

Default got it fixed

Thanks for all of your help. I replaced the fuse in the junction block and fixed it for awhile but I ended up replacing the 4x4 indicator switch.

glad that was all it was.

hmm, i kind of forgot about my 4x4 indicator light from winter time. I had put it into 4 wheel and my light at the 'shifter' console did not light but the truck was in 4wd. I thought it may be a bulb went bad, so i guess i should look into the fuse panel...

Your truck is different Lizard. The '01 and later have a **** on the dash to select 4wd.

Older trucks have an indicator light on the cluster. The bulb can fail and there is also the switch on the transfer case. You can jump the switch to verify operation.
