Default Steering Shaft is Short

Hi Guys,

I am having a BIT of trouble with replacing my steering shaft (it was all rusted, caused clicking when turning left, and I had a lot of play in the wheel).

I have a:
1998 Dakota 4WD 3.9L V6 Magnum.

I pulled the steering shaft out of my Dakota - it is 31.25". I had purchased a 4WD shaft (Dorman) for the Dakota and it was 2" short. I looked online and the shaft I pulled out of the Dakota looked much more similar to the 2WD models; I called a dealership - they couldn't tell me the length of the 2WD replacement - So I returned the 4WD and purchased the 2WD, as I read it was longer in length.

Well, the 2WD is still an inch short. Any suggestions? After both the 4WD and 2WD steering shafts not fitting, I am not sure where to go from here...I just now figured I'd check the VIN and it is originally a 4WD.

Any help is appreciated!
