My dads challenger says 7,500 on conventional oil. I think that's too long

I change oil in my 3.9 twice a year unless I hit 2500-3000 miles first. I use Castrol 10-30 and NAPA gold oil filters. I have the previous owner's log book so I can tell that he at least changed the oil and filter frequently.

2002 with the mighty 3.9. Change every 5000 miles with Pennzoil 5w30 and a Wix filter. It'll hit 180,000 next week.

I used to go for the factory suggested 7500 miles, but that was taking me 2-3 years to achieve so I have decided that once every spring. Given that I have just over 60K in over 13 years of ownership and that my truck is more of a "spare" vehicle these days, I could be putting all of 3-4K on her at most. I probably could let her go for the 7500 mile interval, but I have a bit of guilt in me~~

And I AM from the old school, but I also have never heard of engine failure due to not changing ones oil!

Patchelect - I've seen motors that died due to oil starvation caused by the sludge buildup from not having the oil changed.

Saw one at my nephew's wrecking yard that the pushrod was locked in place by the sludge ...

(Nephew used to own a wrecking yard - you'd be AMAZED at the combination of "Motors with so much sludge and crap in them they're not even worth scrap value" and "Motors you could almost EAT off the heads they're so clean" you'd get.)

6.5-7,000 miles between oil changes. Mopar filter and Royal Purple 5w-30

I used to run a shuttle van. About 10K miles a month, mostly city. And in 90+ F heat. (A Ford 5.4) Changed my oil fairly regularly at about 12 thousand. I used Walmart synthetic and Wix oil filters.

On my Dakota, 96, V8, 240,000 miles on the clock, I'm running Rotella T6 synthetic. I change my oil 1 time per year, but check the oil every other fill up. Previous owner is a friend, still is even. He kept the engine very clean, and when I replaced some seals, gaskets, the the intake manifold valley pan, there was no sludge.

3,000-3,500 miles on Castrol High Mileage Part Synthetic 10w30 + STP. Oil analysis report shows this is working pretty well.
