Hey everyone. I just crashed my dakota this morning...saw the guy on the ramp from a quarter mile down the road, but my brakes completely locked up. Both of us are OK.
Any one know how much damage it takes to total the Dakota?
It's a 2000 single cap 2wd. V6 with 86000 on it.
The front bumper was crushed in and the air bags went off.
Something odd was that the passenger airbag didn't go off until I got out of the truck.

Kelly Blue Book (sale to a private party) is $2300 in excellent condition (zip code 85730.) $6 grand is not even remotely possible. It's a 14 or 15 year old truck and the mileage probably doesn't matter. If just the bumper and grill are toast, you could probably get those at a junk yard. I don't know about airbags--they can be spendy.

Insurances have different levels to determine if a vehicle is totaled. Generally, if the repair amounts to over 75% of the vehicle value, then it's totaled. Some insurances have less of the amount, some more, so your best off checking with your own insurance. If they do "total" it, you can always take the payout, keep the truck and fix it yourself. It will forever have a branded title though.

Sadly 2wd's dont have much value. Id say 5k would total it. Depending how much you love your truck and how bad the damage is you can fix it. My insurance totaled my ram. Body shop estimated 10k+ to fix it. Airbags never went off. I loved my rust free truck too much to let it go and be picked clean at the junk yard. I took my 15k state farm gave me and bought my truck back. Im almost done, 98% of the parts are brand new and im only into it for 2,500 then around 1,000 for paint

They had 1,500.00 down to straighten the frame. There was hardly any frame damage. No broken welds, I fixed it with some heat and 3lb sledge

After some time, sweat and blood this is how it currently sits. Almost done

Granted it has an R title now but with only having 150k on the truck and 56k on the engine I never wanted to get rid of it. Everyone is asking top dollar for these trucks. Best part is im gonna be 8k in the profit when its all done!

Thought Im only gonna be less than 30 sec ill just set my brake and turn the wheels up hill. No point in shutting it off.
Thats the reason I bought it back it was too nice of a truck to go to the junk yard to be picked apart. I couldnt let her go out like that.
