Default Tranny Swap question!!

Hey guys i had a quick question that im sure many of you guys would know. I searched the forms but had no luck . As of yesterday I totaled my 2000 v6 3.9 with the 42re and this morning i came across a post on Craigslist for a 2000 v8 5.9 with a dead 46re thats quite affordable. My question is could i just simply bolt on my 42re onto the 5.9L . And if i could can it handle the abuse ????? i dont plan on towing anything to crazy . thanks in advance fellas.

You could do it, it wouldn't last exactly very long, maybe 6 months. If you are mechanically ept, you could build a 42/46 hybrid depending on what is dead in the 46.

What magnet said. It will bolt up but the 42RE isn't rated for the torquw the 5.9 puts out.

If you baby it which I doubt you will after going from a 3.9 to a 5.9 it may last.. But start giving it the **** to pass some one or tow it won't last long.
