4.7 Enging that needs TLC
Hello All,
I have a 2000 4.7ltr with 160K miles on it. My lifters are starting to stick and front and rear seal are leaking. I was thinking about having the engine overhauled. Which raised two questions.. 1.) Do they make a Dodge 4.7Ltr crate engine? if so, who sells it? 2.) I'm looking for an after market CAM where the torque curve starts at 1000 or 1500 RPM. It appears the current CAM starts at 2500 RPMs.
Your thoughts?
Bill

There are places that will sell a rebuilt engine, just Google it. They aren't cheap, at least $2600 before shipping.
Both the front and rear seals can be done with the engine in the truck. To change the rear seal the transmission needs to come out.
You don't have lifters on the 4.7. It has "lash adjusters." Sometimes they can tick on start up. Try a different oil or filter and see if it changes. It may also indicate an exhaust leak.
High mileage motor oil may reduce your front/rear seal leaks for a while. It has conditioners to "swell" the seals some.
There are very few aftermarket performance parts for the 4.7. In '00 the curve peaks around 3400 rpm at 295 ft lbs. At 1200 rpm it's about 240 ft lbs,
