The gov pressure/sensor code does not always mean tranny is bad. We have a 04 grand cherokee with the 42re(most likely what your truck has) We got a good tranny shop replace both of them along with a new filter and was 230.00 out the door. That was over 40,000 miles ago. It was the same problem as you have the vehicle would start in 3rd gear(feeling sluggish) but the manual gear test came back good and it would downshift to those gears. You dont need a tranny shop to do it. Find a good mechanic shop and they shouldnt have a problem doing it. Its pretty simple to do. Are you right in Atlanta? My uncle and aunt live about 40 miles west of there might be able to find you a good shop in that area if you want me to ask.

Thank you, DodgeRamGuy, for your reply! I'll be taking the truck out of the transmission shop and bringing it to an independent shop for a 2nd opinion. I could be wrong but I don't feel the transmission needs to be rebuilt. I sure hope I have the same experience as you had! I will update this post next week after the mechanics at the other shop give me their diagnosis. I just want to start with replacing the 2 sensors, filter and gasket. If it turns out it needs a rebuilt transmission, at least I took this route first which I believe is the right one.

Unfortunately, I live 20 minutes north of Boston but thank you, very much, for your offer to have your aunt and uncle help me out!

Thank you, Dodgevity, for another reply! I love your "true story". It's terrible how some shops treat women and I never had to deal with this (although I had heard about it) because I always had my dad who was a Master Mechanic and then I had my husband. Since my husband died, I am afraid every time I have to bring the truck to a shop. This last time was the worst because I know nothing about transmissions and went in there blind. It was a terrible experience all around and I'm glad it's over!

So, next week I will bring the truck to the independent shop and I will report the results here once I know them.

Thank you, again, for all of your help!! I truly appreciate this!!
