For a few months now, I intermittenly get a strange noise coming from the rear end of the truck. It sounds like a slight mechanical slapping/rapping noise which repeats in quick succession... like 3-4 times a second. It's very hard to notice by anyone not in tune with the truck. Over the weekend I noticed it would occur when traveling at low speeds and the road meanders to the left. It does not happen on a 90 degree turn and it only happens when coasting, never when I'm on the gas. I checked underneath and saw nothing loose.

Anyone heard of this before?

 

Could be a few things. U-joint(s) going bad, brakes, bearings going bad.

Does your truck have an Open or Limited slip rearend ?

I have long thread about noise from my truck's rearend on here. My truck's rearend noise is/was coming from the clutches in the Limited slip rearend.
