Default Shifts out of OD randomly, otheerwise shifts great

So my buddy has a 2002 Dakota v8 2wd Auto trans. He is having an issue with it staying in overdrive. it shifts perfectly into every other gear and into OD fine but it will sometimes not shift into OD or it will jump out of OD randomly. No codes, and it has about 100,000 miles on it i believe. it is due for a fluid change but i wouldn't think the fluid would only effect OD. The level is correct.

I had this problem on mine. It was the TPS. See the thread at the top. Bsicly, you need to check that its within the specified voltage. Sometimes you can get away with drilling out the mounting holes and setting it manually. Or just try a new one, they're pretty cheap.

that is interesting. your TPS went bad and it only affected the OD? normally they wont idle from what i have heard. i will check his TPS and make sure it is in spec.
