2000 4.7 Won't Idle
After charging the battery overnight, my truck wouldn't idle. It would start but immediately die if I didn't use some gas. If I let the revs drop below about 2000rpm it would die. I think the flat battery is a separate issue, as it goes flat whenever its left for more than about two weeks.
I noticed that it had cleared the CEL, which is normally alway on due to a P0442 and one that I can't remember but its related to the fact that I'm using a 2004 (I think) transmission controller to give me the extra overdrive gear. I realise that the codes being cleared is probably due to the fact that the battery was absolutely dead (barely a click when trying to start it). After running it for a few minutes (keeping it going with the gas pedal), I noticed that the CEL was back on. I was going to ignore it, as I thought it was the usual faults I've just described but I was surprised to find only one, P1698-No CCD Messages Received From PCM.
I've never had this code before and don't really know what it means. Could it be related to the idling issue or is it just coincidence? Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

First thing to check out would be the IAC motor. Happened to mine once, wouldn't idle unless held gas pedal. they get dirty and stick, don't open enough to keep idle. Computer tells this thingy how far to open depending on load. Could probably clean it but I replaced mine. Check for a vacuum leak, loose gas cap or something in that area for your PO442 code. Check computer plugs and make sure they are tight, erase code, see if it comes back.
Dakota's hate weak batteries and can generate some pretty odd codes.
If any of your gauges worked it was receiving messages.
P0442 is an Evap Leak Monitor Medium Leak Detected. It could be a bad gas cap, a cracked vacuum hose, or even a rotted fuel filler neck.
