Default 2001 Dakota Parking Brake won't disengage

I've got a 2001 Dodge Dakota with a parking brake that won't disengage. The pull (seems to) work correctly and the light goes off, but the truck drives like the e-brake is still on. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum Pigpen.

It sounds like one or both of the rear parking brake cables is frozen or rusted. Look along the drivers side and you'll see the cable coming down from the front. Near the drivers side rear it "splits", one cable to each rear wheel.

Try tapping the cables. If they're very corroded they may not release and you'll have to take the drums off and replace them.

Don't drive around till you fix it. You'll get the drum and caliper red hot, causing more damage. You may need to cut the seized cables near the hub (so you can get the brake released).

How COLD is it where you are right now? Is it frozen inside the cable maybe?

Everything here is entombed in ICE and 12 degrees....
