Default Wheel adapter opinions?

I have been wanting to get wheels on my truck but never found any in the 6x4.5 bolt pattern that were decently priced or that I like. I like the xd addicts but don't want to pay 170 for each wheel. So to my question, my brother in law is selling some wheels that I like for hopefully cheap but they are for a chevy. So I thought about getting adapters and getting them but don't want to be running through ball joints either. So anybody that has run this setup, how was it?
And secondly where do you guys buy rims for your dakota's? I want wheels that look like this

I ran adapters on mine for a long time before I put in the solid axle. And I ran them on the rear only for a while after that, until I switched to a Chevy rear axle. I never had any problems. Just get the thinnest ones you can (1-1/4" is about the minimum without trimming studs) and spend the money to get some that are both hub-centric and wheel-centric, and made of high-quality aluminum. Cheap ones are notorious for breaking. IIRC, I paid over $300 for the set I had.

I got mine from http://wheeladapter.com/. The guy is, um, interesting, but he makes a quality product.

I find this funny

Why?

He wants to use some cheap rims why they are cheap..... and you suggest he needs some outrageous high priced adapters why ... so he can use the ......... cheap wheels.

That's almost as crazy as I want to spend large sums of money to convert my truck from 6 lug to a 5 lug.......... so I can buy some cheap wheels?

Did you see this on that web http://wheeladapter.com/

What's your point? He can convert from 6x4.5 to 6x5.5 (Chevy pattern) without changing the number of lugs.

He asked if it can be done. I told him the only safe way. I'll let him determine whether or not that's cost-effective. Should I have suggested cheap adapters and let his wheels fall off?

All I'm saying is what he wants and what he can afford don't mesh nothing to do with you.

I personally would never use any kind of spacer adapter they have proven to be unreliable especially at high speeds 55 mph and up.

When the choice is either wow looks great or reliability I prefer reliability.

Sorry didn't know it was a 6 lug also

Sounds like decent adapters will offset any potential savings on rims.

I've always had a hard time justifying the cost of rims. My truck came with the factory aluminum 5 double spoke. They may not be the most beautiful, but they are paid for! In my lifetime, I only purchased one set of aftermarket wheels. Everything else ran on whatever was on the vehicle when I acquired it for the last 50+ years of vehicle ownership.

I'm exactly the opposite. I can't stand driving a vehicle that looks just like a million others, so I have to "customize" every vehicle I own. Wheels, IMO, are one of the easiest and most effective ways to do that.

To each his own, though. If the op wants to buy $300 adapters so he can run $50 wheels, who am I to judge? It's his money. I'm sure lots of people think I waste money on stupid mods, too.

The more i think about it I'm probably going to wait on wheels because i would need new tires to go with the rims and don't have the money to buy new tires right now. And i would rather not go with adapters because i don't want my wheels and tires to stick out way past my fenders like i think they will. Thanks for the input tom, if i ever change my mind those are the adapters i will probably get.

Personally I think your wheels and tires look just fine the way they are.
