Do they only work when hot as most of my driving is short 10 to 15 minute drives usualy that is.
You'll notice the difference the first time you step on the pedal. They don't have to warm up at all. BUT they're great when they're hot, too. I tow some fairly heavy stuff and the EBC pads didn't fade at all in conditions where my previous pads would have been smoking and my butt would have been munching seat foam (speaking from personal experience).

Pad life is comparable to "regular" pads. They make a pretty fair amount of brake dust, but I don't have you pegged as somebody who doesn't like to wash his wheels.

Anyone have any experience with Hawk brand or Akebono I have read a few reviews on both kind of mixed some are more specialized regarding best use or how they preform best?

My main driving is short 10 to 15 minute drives with the occasional longer drive. I used to go back and forth to California but not now.

I'm not sure why or what is causing this but the ABS will kick in on some braking conditions after I installed the last set of brake pads one reason I'm changing out those pads this has never happened before. I'm going to replace the ABS sensor on the Diff it may be the problem.

98Dakaz - you do realize, if the brake pads are enough better than the traction of the wheel, you'll be getting ABS response as the wheels brake but the tire skids, right?

I'd also do the sensor - a 1998 is getting old enough, that sensor may be failing (wiring) due to age.

This shouldn't matter as the ABS is kicking in on simple breaking Im not slaming the pedel down. The ABS kicks in on hard braking conditions not just simply braking or lets say you shouldn't feel it on simple normal braking.

Tires are new quality long life Michelin all 4 Ive never had them pulse before even on the few hard braking times.

*shrug* Wasn't meant as an insult - you may be surprised how many people don't realize that when working properly, ABS will kick in any time the tires start sliding and the vehicle is going fast enough.

And also think ABS works magic to help you stop.

But I've ridden in cars like that before - tires were OK, but the owner improved the brakes and the ABS started kicking in "early" since the brakes would now clamp down, but the tires would now slide. Not everyone thinks about that.

I've even met folks who talk about doing brake upgrades "because my ABS kicks on during heavy braking!" which, to some folks, says "No need to work on the brakes, let's work on the tires!" *grins*

When I converted to disc brakes on my 2000 Malibu, it would thrum at times that used to just slow down, due to my exceeding what the tires could do. Next set of tires (within 2,000 miles!), THAT went away.

*shrug* I'll apologize, but first -

ABS works by sensing the loss of rotation, i.e., when all is working right, the loss of traction on a tire.

And *ahem* how many "I just put a CAI on my car!" with no heat shields, how many "I gots 10K hids in my truck without any projectors!", how many (and this is a prize one on Ford owners!) "I got a cylinder 6 error on my code scan" does it take to start off presuming people are ignorant. Not stupid, ignorant. There is a difference after all.

I'm sorry it seemed like I was calling you stupid. I wasn't. I was also explaining why I responded like I did. Somehow that didn't come across as I meant. Meh. It happens, it'll happen in the future.

Cool

Now that my brake pad thread became side tracked and puked on I decided to try out some Hawk pads around $65.

Thanks Tom for the suggestion but at $150 no, I’m not driving hard or fast these days but I would like to try them out.

Just picked up a loud vibration and noise on some stops almost sounds like a shoe is coming lose in the rear or a cracked drum one drum is new other is original. I have a new set of shoes and brake hardware kits sitting in my garage so it may be time to replace my rear brakes I hate dealing with all the springs.
