2001, 4.7 -- new engine/head blown
Granted dodge had their head where it didnt belong when they designed the 4.7, it's a decent motor.
If you left the cap off, that would prevent the system from pressurizing, which would lower the boiling point. Water boils at 212, the 4.7 has a 210 thermostat and aluminum heads...you do the math. Very easy to build a hot spot in the back of the heads and warp them. The cap needs to be on so that the system pressurizes and raises the boiling point to 238-250 or so.

Ok--so not knowing which portion of the engine I would have to get fixed (head gasket or heads milled--correct term?) can anyone tell me (in the DFW area) about how much it would cost to get either one done and where I might go?
I have thought of just trading him in. However, I need a truck and I like this one. Besides, the new ones are just too expensive for me right now.
