Default Trans service on a 3.9L Dakota 2000 model high mileage

I bought this truck from a buddy of mine and i don't know if the tranny had ever been serviced or not, so my question is it a good idea to service the tranny at 230,000 miles?

at 230,000 miles, i would have a good shop do a complete rebuild on it, or eat the core charge and put a 46RE in it. The 42RE is weaker than a toothpick, I just blew my third one up at 173K.

Welcome to the forum.

If you mean fluid and filter - by dropping the pan, then it wouldn't hurt. Don't flush it anything like that.

Adjusting the bands? I'd leave well enough alone on that at this point.
