Default Heater blower issue

2002 Dakota Quad Cab 4.7 motor.

Having an issue getting the heater to blow out onto the floor. It blows more out the upper vents when set to floor only. I can hear the door move under the dash when turning the **** but it must not be in the right position. I think at times it will blow out the floor only but when I roll down the road (give it gas) it will change to more out the upper vents. Maybe a vacuum issue?

Not sure where to start first. Need some help here.

Thanks, Mark

Do the doors that direct the air work off a vacuum or are they electrically controlled? Remember a 2002 Dakota.

Good luck on finding the servos you need

rockauto.com shows only 1 available the dealer may have them but who knows. The dealer can also run a diagnostic on the HVAC system that may fix it by adjusting the system this is a dealer only service not DIY.

The diagnostic may fix the problem or not if a servo is bad. The service manual says to replace any servo the dash needs to be removed so the dealer may charge as high as $1K just to fix it.

I’m not sure the Dakota has the same problems as the Ram does with broken blend doors. But if you have a dealer fix any servo problems that need the dash removed get everything fixed at the same time like a new heater core or bent /broken blend doors a new fan is advised also other HVAC doors may be damaged also. You don’t want to put it back together then one year later need it fixed again.

You only want this done one time so get everything fixed/replaced.
