Default Dorman Intermediate Shaft

Anyone ever used an aftermarket steering shaft, Dorman in particular?

Is there any reason to get a factory one over aftermarket? I mean the factory ones don't seem to be all that great considering they wear out, pop and get a lot of play in them.

This Dorman one does seem to be different, almost backwards, from a factory one. The boot seems to be in a different location than the factory one, it's further up the shaft from the rack connection than the factory ones....not sure if that makes any difference or not, it'll flex either way I guess.

Ok just for anyone searching in the future, I changed mine out with the $36 Dorman part and the steering is tighter than it's ever been. No popping, no binding, no play in the wheel anymore. Should've done this the day I bought it.

I wonder why the RWD shaft is so much more expensive than the 4WD unit? Makes no sense.

I think it's longer than the 4WD shaft, it's only $23 more.

So feels much better, huh?

I don't have any play, but I do have slight popping. I've been doing a little research and I may try loosening it up and retightening... like a realign. Something about it being out of line may cause it to pop, according to what I read.

I've been working on the front end and it feels good, except for the pop. Last month I replaced all the riveted ball joints. I've also replaced sway bar end links with Moogs and converted the PS fluid to ATF.
