I like being different also that's one of the reasons I decided to buy it. The hood looks like it's fairly reinforced at the bottom it has reinforced studs where the hood Springs Mountain probably the beefiest part of the hood. Where the grill support is now that's another story I might have to do some work in that area.
I've never saw one like that before.. Do a search on google images you might find the name on it.. Thats what I did with mine as I had to be different as well! Turns out mine was discontinued in 2008 so they are rare to see
As far as hood springs I wouldnt run them(stock ones anyway.. I dont on mine currently.. They make lighter ones... I just never got around to running them.. All I did was disconnect the lift part that way when I put the hood up I can still use the rod just hook it back up to the spring part and it will hold my hood up.. No rod or anything in the way holding the hood...
