Random misfire. Can't find it
I am wondering the same thing. I just did some resoldering on one of the PCM's I have and trying that out now. It may take 3 or 4 days to tell as it does not always do it. I suspect the PCM cause apparently you can't buy new ones anymore, only rebuilt. I'm wondering how good a job they actually do? The junk yards around by me anyway have NONE. From watching videos on the PCM apparently the Dakota and Durango have known issues. One is a faulty IAC driver, intermittent and another is an EPROM causing communication failure and another is a 12 to 24 volt step up transformer. Still studying, still looking and I guess it will eventually get figured out. One of the hardest things I've had to deal with in reference to electronics. What a nightmare!
If you google about the misfires ,it is fairly common,i am going to go with my gut and change my distributor was reading about this problem and hall effect inside the dist gets carboned up,will let you know tomorrow if it worked
Yeah, I don't know about pulling the distributor when it can easily be checked for play or slop by observing the rotor and have someone turn the crank pulley. I fail to see enough wiggle in mine to cause a problem. Not saying it can't be the problem.
Great points ,i am going to just change the pickup, assuming i can without pulling dist. Thanks everyone! And on a side note this forom is the best 2 others could not help or come up with a answer that made sense
Sorry I am new here. Thought its was pretty much like any other engine that uses a cam sensor in the distributor for injector timing.
