Default Rear Differential Troubles

Over the past year the rear differential on my 2001 Dakota has been whining and its getting to the point that it is unbearable. The truck is 2WD and has a 9.25" "anti-spin differential" with 3.55 gears. Would swapping to shorter gears be beneficial? I am looking for quicker acceleration out of the truck.

I have been thinking about moving to 4.10s but unsure of the feasibility as well as the cost of doing such a change. Parts wise, what would I need to make the change and roughly how much would it cost?

Changing the gears to 3.92 or 4.10's would help you get off the line faster but your engine will be turning faster on the highway.

Costs vary.

Most of my driving is around town and stop and go. If 4.10s are a possibility, I can use a calculator to figure my RPMs at highway speeds.

4.10's are available.
