Default MAP Sensor wet!?

Hi guys,

I am quite a mechanic beginner and I was wondering ...

I finally was able to pull out the MAP sensor from the manifold after a glorious victory against the eaten and rusted bolt.

To my surprise, the sensor tube was wet as hell. I would even say "oily" ... is it normal?

A newb.

No.

But.

An oily intake manifold is a common problem on the LA-based Magnum motors, due to Mother Mopar using two different metals for the intake and the plenum belly pan.

The gasket tears due to the metal expanding/contracting at a different rate.

The quick fix is to replace the gasket, but it will tear sooner or later.

The GOOD fix is to either weld the plenum pan on, or even better is to use the Hughes plenum repair kit.

You didn't say if it was a 3.9 or a 5.2 or 5.9; they are different kits (natch!), but Hughes has both (the V6 and V8 kits.)

It is the 4.7l, on a Dakota 2000 4x4 ...

What is this kit? Any link? I would keep it in mind when I will change the gasket!

Your engine doesn’t have this problem those are the older engines he is talking about.

I say replace it but pull it in a month or two and see if the oil is back. If you haven't done it yet a throttle body cleaning should be done. Pulling it out to clean is the best way and easy on the 4.7. Just use care with the iac don't spray cleaner directly on it the idle chamber is usually the dirtiest and causes the most problems. Just pull the iac before cleaning the TB.

Then it's not applicable.

I'd'a avoided posting if you had mentioned WHICH motor you had. My crystal ball is broken, and my Magic 8 Ball kept coming up with "Answer Unclear, Try Again" *grins*

(Joking way to suggest it may be helpful to post a few details if you're asking for help ...)

Yeah I know sorry guys. I usually give more details when asking questions around. For some reason, forgot to put the engine details here.

So I finally replaced both the MAP sensor and the front O2 sensor, and now everything run as smooth as new.

Sorry again guys...
