'01 Fuel Smell after sitting
My '01 has been emitting a gasoline aroma after starting if has been sitting for more than a few hours, overnight, even early AM until noon. It never is strong, I can't locate any problems underwood and it's been doing this for years. The truck only has around 62K on the clock. Does this seem to be an easily fixed issue? The aroma is just that, an aroma, not a putrid gasoline smell. It generally seems to clear after running for a while and it is no more or less noticeable with windows open or closed so I assume it is entering from under the hood. It's nothing that has kept me awake at night, but I'm trying to solve the mystery.
Get under it and look closely around the Filler tube and the tank. Also follow the gas lines from the tank to the engine, looking for any stains on the chassis or anything the line passes close to. The lines are pressurized when the pump is running. so a leaking line should be easy to find.
USE A FLASHLIGHT, NOT A CANDLE!!!
Also tighten all the gas fittings in the engine area.
