Default Code 12

So, I am starting a new thread here. Here's the scenario:
I have a 97 dodge Dakota 4x4 5.2 Automatic
The previous owner hacked it up pretty bad.
I had a mechanic that I had used many times and even referred customers too do work on it.
He put in a PCM for a Dodge Ram/Van in truck without my knowledge/consent making my odometer read "no bus", however making the truck run but none of the gauges working.
I didn't realize I had a no bus because the previous owner screwed up my instrument cluster and the odometer was FUBAR, so once I got a second hand cluster, I could read the odometer saying "no bus" and none of my gauges working.
Today I got a second hand PCM from a 97 Dakota 4x4 automatic and the gauges work, however I get a code 12, which I think means that I disconnected the battery within the last 50 start up cycles (correct me if I'm wrong please).
My problem now is with the correct PCM in, the truck misfires and doesn't operate smoothly. The mechanic put in a new distributor cap in and told me I had some out of order when I changed plugs but I don't know how I could have done that since I do them one at a time.

Question: can a different PCM cause a different firing sequence on an engine? Is that possible?? When I have the other PCM in, the one for the van, the truck SEEMS to operate smoothly. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I'm gonna drive it to Autozone and switch out PCM with correct one and try to get any codes or to a different mechanic.

I am getting a new cam position sensor in mail. I have personally put in new TPS, MAF sensor, crank position sensor.

So, it has a second Cluster, second PCM, new Distributor Cap, new TPS, new MAF, new CMP, and new CKP? And now p0320 and p1391? Any other codes?
I asked this on your other thread just now, but whatever became of the melted plug and the two mystery plugs?

No idea of melted mystery plugs. No one seems to know.

In posts 14 and 16 of your other thread are the connectors I'm referring to.

Whoever owned the truck before micky moused many things to get it to run only run. You may have a number of wrong parts in the truck like the cam sensor so on if you know what I mean.

Time to go to a shop that knows what they are doing and will not micky mouse things for a cheap price if you understand.

You need a wiring specialist I would say .... never cheap.

Im guessing your engine was a swap in and many things were done to make it work get a vin code readout of what your truck had originally in it thats a start.

You're probably right! I tried second CKP sensor new and same ****. I tried finding the engine serial number and it is unreadable. Stuff is flaking off. Is there a way to cross reference this number (i.e. Owners manual,)? I didn't see anything inside drivers door that looked of use. I will have to go to a shop
