Their comes a time when spending more money than an autos good blue book value is worth it your just wasting good money to feel good. A quality paint job cost more than most of these Dakota’s are worth and buying expensive trim mirrors and other parts is not worth the cash.
I’m not spending good money too feel good about my Dakota I will spend good money to keep it running but that’s it. It doesn’t take but a small accident and your insurance company will total it and give you its value by their standards and it won’t be much.
I've owned my truck since new and it has around 65K on the clock. Regardless of "the time" I have plans on keeping it for at least another 15 years so I can justify painting it and whatever else it needs since it is my personal vehicle. If it had 165K on it I would certainly think twice about the repaint, but doing a cursory search I also discovered that asking prices for Dakota's with lower mileage is shockingly high! There are plenty our there with lots of miles and a fair amount of rust but I feel that mine is a better example compared to most out there. Rust is essentially non existent and except for a bent tailgate and the forward part of the bed that will be replaced/repaired the truck is in remarkable condition. As for accidents and insurances, I'll take my chances.
