Default 2001 Windshield Trim

My '01 is getting a new windshield and I want to change the trim as well since it's showing wear and fading. SafeLite doesn't get the trim and told me to get it and they'll put it on when they change the glass. I've been looking at sites to see if I could find it but no luck. Anyone have a direction or do I need to go to my local dealer and see what they say. I know that the bits are pricey but at the moment I'm ready to bite that bullet. The truck is getting a repaint in a few months and I'd hate to have crappy looking windshield molding after paying for the nice paint work.

Part numbers would be great so I could then comparison shop~~

Thanks.

I have never found an after-market on line source for the trim except a dealer source. Problem is only the top strip is still available side strips are no longer available and I question that the top is still available.

This is for a 98 Dakota a 2001 good luck but I wouldn't bet on it NEW parts are getting hard to find for these trucks.

Unhappy

My trim is/was black ... well it now looks like crap they are actually chrome with a thin rubber coating that is now all badly weathered, splitting and separating from the chrome. My only choice is remove all the rubber down to the chrome and buff it out this will probably not look all that good. Other choices paint them or have a shop replate or powder coat them not cheap.

I would pay good money for a NEW top hood trim piece the plastic vent and windshield wiper piece mine is very weathered yuck its ugly Arizona cooking hot sun has trashed it.

Yep part NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Oh well, I guess I have my answer!

Maybe when the truck gets painted the body guy might have an idea. Otherwise it's a pretty paint job and a pretty new windshield with crappy molding~

try ordering them you may be surprised when you get an email or call telling you sorry this part is no longer available.

I have found many dealership web parts lists are showing many parts as available that are not available. This is either neglect or I think a come on in trick just to get you in their web store.

I know I have put orders in only to get the sorry part no longer available email.

If some dealer weds show it available but others don't then its probably not available.

But as I said I was talking about a 98 not 01 but I believe they are the same 2nd-gen for the most are the same parts 97 to 04 some changes but same.

Try contacting Findlay Chrysler at 208-457-1900 part number 55255733AE. They ship from their location online as well.

Their comes a time when spending more money than an autos good blue book value is worth it your just wasting good money to feel good. A quality paint job cost more than most of these Dakota’s are worth and buying expensive trim mirrors and other parts is not worth the cash.

I’m not spending good money too feel good about my Dakota I will spend good money to keep it running but that’s it. It doesn’t take but a small accident and your insurance company will total it and give you its value by their standards and it won’t be much.
