Default not charging

2001 Dakota 4.7 when started the battery gauge shows charging. about a mile
or so down the road the check gauges lights up and battery gauge is at 0.This happened about 3 months ago an then worked fine. Now,its started it again and this morning Dakota would'nt start. Had it checked 3 months ago and battery & alternator checked good and of coarse it was charging at the time. could this be a pcm problem ?

Welcome to the forum.

It sure could be the PCM. The voltage regulator is internal. But, it seems odd that it cleared up for 3 months.

Check all connections and the ground.

What are you getting for voltage: not running, just started (charging), after the mile (check gauges on)?
