Default oil pressure question

I have a 04 dakaota 4.7 bought it used. 103,000 miles. Question is when starting the oil pressure gauge goes to the first white line right away then within a few seconds gauge is in the middle. Does not matter temperature or how long it has been sitting. Is this just the nature of the beast or should I be concerned. I know changing the oil pump is a royal pain. I'll do it if I have to. No I have not put a mechanical gauge on it yet.

Welcome to the forum.

Don't trust the gauge. Confirm the pressure with a mechanical gauge.

Default looks good

I just finished the mechanical gauge test. It is at 75-80PSI. Shut down and restarted mechanical reading is much faster than electrical. Pressure is up in way less than 1 second. Apparently their is a second pressure sensor somewhere. The one I tapped into by the oil filter must just operate the idiot light. Time to buy the Chilton manual. Thanks for the answer. I was just hoping someone would just tell me this is normal but I would have still checked it, just not as soon. Better safe than sorry. Thanks again.
