That one shown is a hybrid then. The one I have is the same on the firewall side, up to the cupholders

I had the same console you are describing. I replaced it with the one in the picture.

The hybrid style came in a few Dakotas with factory bucket seats, but was most common in the Durangos from '01 - 04.

They kept using this style through the next generation of Durangos, but I am not sure if they modified them or if they would work on a gen 2 Dak.

is it actually attached to the floor in the front, or only to the seats?

It's only attached to the floor. It uses the same holes up front, then 6 holes through the floor in between the seats. Your truck should already have those holes, but they are probably filled with seam sealant like mine were. The bolts go right through the stuff. You don't have to dig it out.

So open console, take out 6 screws, take out the 2 or 3 screws in the front of it, then unbolt the bucket seats, lean them back, and remove the 4 bolts connecting the center console to the seats?

The hybrid type full console doesn't attach to the seats at all. Just open lid, take out 6 bolts, take out the front bolts in cup holder area, then lift out.

On the the 40-20-40 bench seat, you take out the 4 bolts on each seat, then lift the whole seat assembly out of the truck. when it's on the ground, tip it back and remove the 4 bolts holding the center section to both buckets. then cut off the mounting brackets that held the center section in place.

Then you can re-install just the individual buckets and the new hybrid floor console

That's exactly what I needed to know!

Mines an extended cab so i figure there should be enough room to just lean the seats back in the truck. Then i can take them out individually to cut the brackets.

I need to hit a junkyard.

Tony, as you best recall, is the large cavity about the same size on both consoles? I'm going to put a pair of 2-1/16 gauges down there (trans temp and wideband). I'd fit a third if there is room.

I don't have my old console anymore so I can't compare, but if you are talking about the cavity on the firewall side of the 2 side by side cupholders, I think they were the same. In fact, I think I swapped out the liner insert from my old one to the new one.

works for me!

I want to put something like this in that spot, i just need an overall width measurement.

http://www.autometer.com/2-3-hole-ga...-aluminum.html

http://savagechassis.com/products/vw...le-gauge-panel claims "This panel measures 7 7/16" long x 2 5/16" tall x 5/16" thick"
