On my 98 one vacuum line goes into the intake manifold the other goes to the charcoal canister that I know of not into a T.

Exclamation

I will say this in all the service manuals documentation of any kind for the 2.5 is crap at best. They usually show a generic picture/diagram that covers all engines the Dakota came with. This dosent work so well with anything related to the 2.5 engines operation.

I can tell that evap diagram is not how the 2.5 is setup

Good luck

So now what..off to a dealer to tell how it should be?? I hope not they over charge and get it wrong half the time.

Anyone out there have an 02 Dakota and can look at their tubes leading away from the evap leak pump??? HELP!!!

I took a few pics thought it might help to see what I have going on...

1st is the pump/location, next the "T". The "T" connector looks "official' has supports at the junction, and numbers printed on it???

I did some more looking I found the big rectangular vacuum canister on/next to the front of the gas tank and followed the two lines up to the engine compartment both go into another device which is mounted under the fuse box and behind the battery toward the rear of the truck not toward the fender. It's a much larger device than the "evap leak pump" WHICH I NOW KNOW IS A EMISSION CONTROL VACUUM??? Have I replaced the wrong part...???

I found both parts in the parts manual diagram's Group 25; 25-410 and 25-430 respectively called emission control vacuum and LEAK DETECTION PUMP ..the thing I replaced is called, in the parts diagram, an emission control vacuum!! ? or the leak detection pump which is the one that has the lines/tubes going into it from the gas tank..WHICH SHOULD I HAVE REPLACED BASED ON THE CODE P1494???

SOOOO the "code" P1494 said I had a bad "EVAP LEAK PUMP" which doesn't match either parts manual listing???? I am totally confused!!!

Well does your State require this emissions devise if not ignore it so you have a red light on some people pull the bulb to it .

It dosent affect how your engine runs unless you have a bad vacuum leak.

Yes, what you replaced is a solenoid/purge valve. The Leak Detection Pump is the larger component. In the picture I posted, it's on the left hidden behind the inner fender support.

I wouldn't trust a dealer with a truck this old, they're going to bark you up the trade-in tree because all they will see is dollar signs.

The diagram that DAKAZ posted matches the one in my FSM that says for all engines.

The EVAP canister purge solenoid on a 98 Dakota is located on the firewall this is how it looks and one line goes to the intake manifold other to the charcoal tank.

To be 100% sure I need to look at it but I have the flu so thats not going to happen.

Must be nice to have an engine that you can stand on both sides of while it's in the truck. LOL.

magnethead so easy to work on its nice only pain is one spark-plug is crammed behind the A/C compressor if Dodge had thought things out better that problem would not be. Next plug replacement Im thinking of dismounting the A/C compressor its only 4 bolts the problem is not the plug so much as getting the wire off without ripping the wire up.
