2004 Dakota Quadcab 4X4 V8
Have an exhaust issue. Ticks when cold, disappears
Completely the minute it's warmed up.
Seems like the heat sheilds are a bit TOO .. sheildy'ish
I realize parts cost is minimal but, this is
too big of a job for me. And my hands just healed from
headlight bulb change out !
I'm hoping, that someone will tell me to check another
part of the exhaust for the leak before I have my truck put on
a lift. And then I can find it, fix it quick and easy all by myself.
I'd sure appreciate any advice / thoughts.

Could be at the manifold on the head or on the flange at the Y pipe.

This is on a 4.7 correct?

 

Just got done replacing that manifold an gasket.Bolts too.1 was fused to block though ..
May be the gasket .Mine was gone .
Mine was on passenger side an was easy to get to after removing tire an guard.But 1 bolt I had to drill out! PB blaster an heat helped.
QUIET now!
Try gently tightening all manifold bolts where u hear leak after warm including flanges.

Yes. And yes, exhaust manifold bolts broken. I hired a friend to do this repair. I stood by and handed him wrenches.

 

I've had this truck for 2 months now. I've got almost all the little bugs fixed / replaced.
R&R the driver side broken bolts went painlessly and rather quick. Mopar metal gasket, smoothed the surface of the mani .. buttoned it up.
​​​​The Passenger side, I cried .. (almost)
1 bolt had broke level at the head, my friend borrowed a welder, weld a nut onto it and back it out. Didn't happen, no gas. In the process of grindin out the last fragments, dude broke through the cooling wall and water begins to drip out the bolt hole!!! Now, it's a bigger job. Pull the head, repair, Mopar parts for upper and lower intake AND head gasket ... AND 2004 4.7 V8, they are individual rings for the intake. SEVENTEEN bucks EACH ! + head gasket $55.00 pre pay, have to order it ..
My friend gets on the phone to a buddy who has a shop, resurfaces heads, rebuilds, etc.
He came over and told us, to just use Helacoil kit and silicone the bolt. So far, So good !!
And only sixteen bucks for some orange antifreeze!
Now, if only I could find the location, if there IS one, of the tie down anchors under the bedliner.
